Qtenboard 55 inch LCD video wall installed in a shopping mall atrium for mall digital signage

Ringkasan eksekutif

For a regional shopping mall operator, the brief was straightforward: replace ageing screens with a digital signage system that looks premium, runs reliably for years, and can be managed without a dedicated AV team. The project team chose a Dinding video LCD Qtenboard 55 inci in a 2×3 configuration with the 0.88 mm ultra-narrow bezel for the main atrium, plus a 1×3 wall for wayfinding at the elevator lobby.

The result is a single, centrally controlled mall digital signage network with uniform brightness, near-seamless visuals, and a control chain the in-house team can operate after one afternoon of training.

The mall in this shopping mall video wall case study is a mid-sized regional retail complex: multi-level, with anchor department stores, fashion and F&B tenants, a cinema, and a central atrium used for weekend events and seasonal campaigns.

Before the upgrade, the operator relied on ageing commercial displays and printed wayfinding acquired from several vendors over the years, which made brightness and colour consistency across units hard to maintain.

The Challenge: What the Old System Could Not Deliver

The problems were familiar to anyone who manages mall digital signage on legacy hardware:

  • Visible seams and uneven brightness. Panels from different batches showed clear brightness and colour drift, and the old bezels created a grid of visible frames that weakened the impact of premium content.
  • Manual, on-site content updates. Every screen had to be updated individually with removable media or a laptop, so campaigns and wayfinding information were often out of date.
  • Slow, multi-vendor maintenance. Support and spare parts were split across several suppliers, and one faulty panel could take days to repair.

For the operator, the commercial cost was concrete: tenants felt the displays did not match the mall’s premium fit-out, and wayfinding errors created avoidable shopper friction.

Selecting the Display System

The evaluation team shortlisted vendors against four criteria:

  • Bezel width — for a near-seamless canvas, the 0.88 mm option was the deciding factor at typical viewing distances of 3–8 metres.
  • Kecerahan — 500 cd/m² for indoor zones, with the 700 cd/m² high-brightness option for window-facing positions with strong daylight.
  • Service life and power — an LED-backlit panel rated at approximately 60,000 hours keeps replacement cycles and operating cost predictable.
  • Control and integration — RS232 control, remote control, and multi-signal split-screen capability were required so one system could handle whole-screen, 2×2, 3×3, and custom layouts.

Qtenboard was selected for this Qtenboard video wall project because the 55-inch series met every criterion and could be supplied as one accountable package — panels, mounting, and control chain — with custom panel colour available to match the mall’s interior.

Deployed Configuration and Technical Specifications

The atrium installation uses six Qtenboard 55-inch panels in a 2×3 arrangement with a 0.88 mm splicing gap; the elevator-lobby wayfinding wall is a 1×3 arrangement. Each panel delivers 1920×1080 Full HD at 16:9, with a 4000:1 contrast ratio, 97% colour saturation, an 8 ms response time, and a 178° viewing angle — wide enough that shoppers passing at an angle still read content clearly.

The 500 cd/m² standard brightness was paired with the 700 cd/m² high-brightness option on zones facing daylight. Active area per panel is 1209.6 mm (H) × 680.4 mm (V), and the complete wall is mounted on a cabinet-type structure with a strong solid metal casing (anti-static, anti-magnetic-field, and anti-interference design) suited to the continuous operating hours of a retail environment.

Content is delivered through DVI, HDMI, and USB inputs, with PAL/NTSC signal support adapting 480i through 1080P sources. The RS232 control chain (one input and two outputs per panel) lets the operator daisy-chain all panels to a single controller, while a remote control handles day-to-day switching. Display modes cover whole-screen display, multi-signal split-screen display, and any combination such as 2×2, 3×3, or custom layouts, with subtitle display available for bilingual campaigns. Operating power is ≤220 W with standby at ≤3 W, and the multilingual UI supports English and Chinese.

Installation and Integrator Feedback

Technicians installing a Qtenboard 55 inch LCD video wall with cabinet wall mount in a shopping mall
Cabinet-type wall mounting keeps installation clean and serviceable in occupied retail space.

Installation was completed as a cabinet-type wall mount over two working days: panels aligned with precision shims, the RS232 chain tested panel by panel, and the mall’s content team loading the first campaign from a single workstation.

Feedback from the integration team, paraphrased with their permission, focused on three points:

“The 0.88 mm seam is genuinely hard to see at normal viewing distance — it behaves like a single canvas.”

“RS232 daisy-chain control cut commissioning time by roughly a third compared with previous projects.”

“The metal casing and uniform mounting points made the mechanical installation straightforward.”

We note that results vary by project; the feedback above is representative of typical mall deployments rather than a guarantee of specific timescales.

Operational Benefits After Deployment

  • Visual consistency. 97% colour saturation and factory-matched panels keep content uniform, so tenant campaigns look the same on every panel.
  • Lower total cost of ownership. The approximately 60,000-hour rated backlight and ≤3 W standby power reduce both replacement frequency and idle energy cost.
  • Flexible zoning. Split-screen modes let the mall run tenant ads, event promotion, and wayfinding simultaneously on the same wall.
  • Simple daily operations. Remote control and RS232 management mean non-specialist staff can switch layouts and sources without vendor support.
